Harley-Davidson is shutting down some production at plants in Missouri and Wisconsin for one week, citing slow sales. Workers will not be paid during this period, but their health-care benefits will continue. Layoffs also will be occurring at the company’s facility near York, Pennsylvania. Harley’s sales are suffering, along with other luxury goods manufacturers, because of the subprime mortgage crisis.
