To us, Honda’s range topping superbikes have always seemed a little better put together, a little more timeless than their competitors. It seems like their graphic design language has finally caught up with the boffins in R&D. Ignore, if you will, the horrible wing graphic that comes with certain colors of the new CBR1000RR and focus instead on the understated and classy two-tone schemes and their new medallion tank badge.
It’s not just that the classic Honda wing is way cooler than the current tacky one. Presented here, under clear plastic and with a chrome surround, it looks like branding that belongs on a luxury product. Which is exactly what the CBR1000RR is.
Of course, it also represents a visual commitment to honor their long and illustrious racing heritage. Think of bikes like the RC166 with its classic wing badges and beautiful silver and red paint, and you’ll see where Honda is looking for inspiration.
