Forget everything you thought you knew about BMW’s offroad
motorcycles. The G450X is all change. For starters, it’s not a super
heavy styling exercise like the R1200GS. It’s a bona fide enduro
competition bike. Everything from the frame, to the radiator, to the
seat has been designed with competition in mind. Even with the Euro
III exhaust, it develops 50bhp and weighs less than 120kgs.
One of the coolest features is the swingarm. Mounted through the
gearbox, it eliminates the change in chain tension under suspension
compression or extension. This also has the welcome side effect of
increasing the swingarm length, which will improve traction.
