European roads to get non-slip manhole covers

non-slip-manhole-cover.jpgIf the UK motorcycle lobby gets its way, the EU could be rolling out these new, non-slip manhole covers across its member states. If you’ve ever tried to brake, turn or accelerate over a damp manhole cover, you know how dangerous they can be. By replacing traditional slick designs with the heavily treaded version shown above, the EU will be taking a vital step toward making roads safer for motorcyclists. Now if we could just get the authorities in New York City to stop putting those 10′x10′ steel plates everywhere, we’d be on to something.

mailing from scotland re- WES SILER on non slip manhole covers(02.22.08). the theory is brilliant for all on two wheels but they are still made of the same cast/ductile iron as always. i dont know about you guys stateside but back here the covers wear to a finely polished finish creating nothing more than a skid pan in every road and more often than not,on a corner in the perfect riding line. so perplexed by the whole subject,i have created my own non slip cover and subject to further testing,is already showing signs of being superior to anything else on the market, and im sure that given market, could be adapted to the 10×10 plates WES mentioned. pleae feel free to contact with info or feedback regarding the above issue.
