Today was not a good day for Valentino Rossi. Or maybe it was. Rossi has reached a settlement to pay €20 million to the Italian tax agency. They originally wanted to fleece him for a whopping €112 million. So maybe 20 is OK, no? Reportedly clearing more than €37 million a year from Yamaha alone — not including endorsements and merchandising deals — we think he’ll be just fine. Rossi has been the poster boy for the Italian government’s crackdown on widespread tax evasion. The Italian tax agency claims that while Rossi was living in London between 2000 and 2004, he was technically still a resident of Italy, and therefore subject to Italian income taxes.
