Australia’s postal service has just increased the maximum weight limits for its letter carriers. Posties have been a fixture of the Australian road since the creation of Honda’s CT90 in the early ’70s. Built for government work, the four-stroke, single-cylinder bike can safely carry up to 130kg — 40kg for the post and 90kg for the mail carriers. After talks with Honda, it was agreed that the Postie bike could carry a rider weighing as much as 105kg, leaving just 25kg for the mail.
>The postal carriers union stated that the previous 90kg limit has
caused recruitment “headaches,” but denied it had caused any staffing
problems. The union stated the increased maximum rider weight has now
enabled more people to become Posties.
