“Driving a car is like watching a movie, whereas riding a motorbike is like being in one,” explains Mike Carter in today’s Guardian. With the budget to lay sinuous ribbons of smooth tarmac across some of the most varied landscapes you’ll ever find squished into a single continent, Europe is home to some of the best riding there is.
>Mike’s list tends toward the obvious, but he does include a few gems. Our
favorite is the E39 north of Bergen in Norway. Because it’s largely inaccessible to
most of Europe, traffic is never a problem and it doesn’t want for
dramatic scenery. Think one part Nova Scotia and two parts Canadian
Rockies.
The Guardian hasn’t bothered providing readers with pictures or maps, so we’ve done the work for you. Check out the E39 on Google Maps, or stick the coordinates in Google Earth and pull the perspective down so you can get a feel for the terrain.
