2008_Triumph_Speed_Triple_matte_black.jpgThe Speed Triple is already one of the most understated bikes on the market, so the addition of matte black paint elevates it to new levels of stealth performance. The paint comes in addition to other midlife tweaks like the new swoopier wheels, Magura handlebars and LED taillight. The seat unit’s plastic has also been tweaked to make it look a little more finished, though this update is less successful than the rest. The 131bhp 1050cc triple remains unchanged.

In typical Triumph fashion, the matte black theme hasn’t found its way to the whole bike, giving it a somewhat unfinished look. The chrome headlights and exhausts, for example, look out of place and needlessly retro amid the rest of the Speed Triple’s muscular aggression.

The wheels on the ’08 speed are beautiful! The seat is more comfortable, the tail is more like the 675 and works perfectly, the black forks look great, and the brembos make the rear wheel float at every stop. I love this ’08 and it’s so hot we can hardly get our hands on one.

I’d trade a kidney for one. Any takers?

word on the street is there will only be 60 of these matte blacks. but im not sure if that is set in stone

That is simply stunning. Triumph sales in Italy have been really strong and if they keep pumping out bikes as good looking as this then its going to continue. In London retro motorcycles are everywhere, mostly Thruxtons, Scramblers, Triples and Bonnies. Will retro ever go out of fashion again?! I hope not!!!

Now if Triumph could just make the Bonneville without so much fat. I don’t need them to put a honker engine in it, etc. That’s what the Triples are for. I just wish they’d take it to the gym and put it on a treadmill for 80 pounds or so.
