NE Apartments is a new building in Tokyo designed with the motorcyclist in mind. By incorporating a cul-de-sac into the building’s center, architects Yuji Nakae, Akiyoshi Takagi and Hirofumi Ohno have ensured that each resident has easy access to the ground floor of their home and its incorporated bike storage.
>That cul-de-sac, narrow at the entrance but expanding to a spacious
circle at the building’s center, doesn’t just provide a clever entrance
solution, but allow space for bikes to be turned around easily and lets
plenty of light into each of the aparments’ three floors.
The rest of the NE Apartments are equally clever, with dividing walls
running radially off the center courtyard to ensure right-angled rooms
and maximum living space. We just wish they’d build something similar
