Yamaha has announced plans to build a new test track near Kikugawa City in Japan. Work on the ¥6.4 billion facility is scheduled to begin in October 2009, with completion occurring sometime during the latter half of 2012. The company emphasizes the minimal impact the 486,000-square-meter facility will have on the local environment; the infield will be filled with naturally occurring flora.
The track is being built in response to the need to increase new model development for booming Asian markets. While it will play a crucial role in testing and developing those new bikes, it’s unclear if it will be used for any racing or recreational track day use.
