There’s a pan-European campaign taking place right now to have dangerous road furniture — primarily guard rails, but also signposts, streetlights, etc. — replaced with safer alternatives. They have a valid point. There’s no justification for governments continuing to install criminally unsafe infrastructure when safe alternatives exist for similar money. Single rail guardrails, for instance, merely need an additional lower rail added to avoid decapitating bikers, while cable guardrails are just stupid. The campaign has been slowly gathering momentum over the last few years but may have now reached a tipping point thanks to the support of MotoGP contenders like Dani Pedrosa and the media attention they bring.
