Expedition: Moab

moabpost.jpgUranium mines, Hollywood, Manifest Destiny’s route to the West, Marlboro Country and home to the vanished Anasazi. Moab is one of the great landscapes of North America, full of history both real and imagined.

We went in hopes of awe-inspiring vistas set amid a brutish environment capable of pushing the limits of human endurance. Somewhere between the jumping, mad scrambling and lightning dashes through the dunes aboard KTM 525 and 450 XC ATVs we found something else. We’re just not sure what that was.

Holy crap! is that one of you guys jumping?

    • http://hellforleathermagazine.com Wes

Yep, that’s Grant, I was shooting. You’ll have to ask him what happened on the way down…

Yeah, I needed to hit it in 3rd instead of 2nd, go long instead of high, plus I didn’t rotate to the front enough. Long story short, the rear left tire caught the kicker and shot me off the right side.

The best part was that I didn’t have the kill-clip attached to my jersey. The quad landed on all four in second gear and shot off to the left. I got to watch Wes run after the thing while I slid to a halt in the dirt and gravel on my right shoulder. He chased it for over 100 yards.

Run. Give up. Run some more. Give up. Ruuunnn some more. All in full motocross gear.

        Priceless.

Yeah awesome shots, Wes, nothing like a good mesa, I always say!

The rest of the shots are all Grant’s. I just couldn’t land that particular one myself (I have a wrist injury), so I had to shoot while Grant jumped. Grant’s in the blue getup, I’m in the black.

Grant that’s an amazing jump – I’m amazed you landed at all. It reminded me of a photograph of my dad doing an-old school jump when he was at school. I’ve uploaded a photo of it here.

Wow Sam, that’s a cool picture. Anything that combines Eton, coattails, vintage motorcycle and death defying stunts is alright by us.

      That’s the awesomest, Sam.

I would buy that as a huge print and hang it in my living room.

Grant and Wes, the article and photos turned out amazing! Thank you for shining some light on Moab and the adventure that can be had on our trails. Myself and the HighPoint Hummer & ATV crew hope to see you both in the future for some more excitement on two and four wheels!
