Aprilia RSV4 ready for Phillip Island SBK with 210bhp

Nakano_Aprilia_RSV4.jpgMax Biaggi and Shinya Nakano are ready to ride the Aprilia RSV4 at its debut race, the first round of the 2009 SBK season, which runs at Australia’s Phillip Island this weekend. While the bike looks incredibly good in race trim and is making a reliable 210bhp, we’re a bit worried by the repeated mention of “continued development” by the riders and team. It could mean one of two things: either the RSV4 is uncompetitive or it’s going to kick the crap out of everyone and they want it to be a surprise. We’ll find out this weekend. Also concerning is the apparent lack of a major sponsor. While we
wouldn’t put it past Aprilia to pull something out of the hat at the
last minute, right now it only has Rifle (a maker of the type of
unfortunate jeans Italians inexplicably love) along with associated
parts suppliers like Dellorto.

The 2009 SBK season kicks off Saturday with an unprecedented seven
manufacturers taking part. We can’t wait to see the BMW S1000RR take on
the RSV4 and the Ducati 1198. This weekend also marks the debut of the
production 2010 BMW S1000RR. Stay tuned for more info.

Also:
Aprilia, the RSV4′s engine sounds fucking amazing, please start including it in videos. That alone will sell many more bikes than cheesy rock music or bad Italian voice overs ever will.

Of course it is, but it’s still notable how often they’ve mentioned it. I hope this isn’t a repeat of the RS Cube where the machine that raced was essentially in need of several year’s more development.
