Phoenix police demonstrate mad motorcycle skills

Phoenix_Motorcycle_Police.jpgAfter watching this video, we’ll think twice about running from bike-mounted police in the vicinity of Phoenix, Arizona. At least through a low-speed gymkhana; they totally kick our ass in low-speed control.

Held to benefit the Special Olympics, the Annual Southwest Police
Motorcycle Training and Competition Event encourages police riders to
hone, then show off advanced motorcycle control. It might be a little
less frightening than the French motorcycle police training, but we’re
just impressed to see bike cops riding this well. Now we just need to
get them wearing full-face helmets and full-body impact and abrasion
protection.

Wow…if only someone would provide the bikes so we could all learn to ride like that (and not worry about dropping the bike numerous times while we did)!

Training is available through the Northwest Motorcycle School. We provide bikes and 42 hours of police motor officer training.

We hold a police rodeo competition in my city with motors from all over. It’s amazing how skilled these guys and gals are.

The same woman always wins the competition smoking out all the men (she rode a KZ1100)

Oakland also has a very good drill team.

Not to detract from their great control, but riding hours every day will build that kind of skill.

I’m way more impressed by the Japanese Motorcycle Cops video you can see on YouTube. This video is just basic tight maneuvers. Use a lot of rear brake, feather the clutch and sit on the bike on the opposite side of the turn and you have a good start…

This sort of thing is SUPER easy on a dirt bike. If you don’t mind dropping the Harley a couple of times until you get it this kind of skill can be practiced and learned fairly quickly IMHO. My roommate had one of these Electra Glides and they are super easy to turn around despite their size and weight.
