2009.5 Zero X electric motorcycle updated with new bodywork, better brakes

We first rode the 2009 Zero X in February, but Zero Motorcycles has already updated it with new bodywork and better brakes. The polypropylene panels draw inspiration from the Zero S electric supermoto, most evidently in the extended tail, swoopier lines and extended number boards. The 2009.5 Zero X electric motorcycle retains the same 2kWh battery pack and 50lb/ft motor. Total weight is just 151lbs.

    That sprocket is huge. The Zero X and S are the best looking electric bikes out right now.

    i’m still surprised they have not put a real rear-shock and front brakes on this thing.

      The thing is, a motorcycle shock and brake would be overkill and would actually hurt performance. At just 151 lbs, a motorcycle shock would have too much damping and too heavy a spring, while a motorcycle brake disc and caliper would unnecessarily increase unsprung weight.

    didn’t they rip the spokes out of it the last time they raced it? better square that away eh?

    Kudos to Zero with all they’re doing, but they seriously need some styling help – that thing still looks like it belongs in the batcave.

    The original brakes on the Zero X were AJP 2 Pot Hydraulic’s. Had them on a 125 smoker and worked well for a sub 100KG. At a guess, Zero have got more power in the future so have upgraded earlier.
