Valentino Rossi will race Wayne Rainey, Kenny Roberts and Eddie Lawson at this year’s US Grand Prix at Laguna Seca. When we first heard that they’d be racing on karts and not MotoGP bikes we were pretty disappointed, but then we saw that they’re 100bhp TZ250 race karts capable of lapping within two seconds of Casey Stoner’s fastest lap there last year.
Rossi, Rainey and Lawson all have significant kart racing experience,
with Rossi winning a regional championship in 1990 before concentrating
on Minimoto and Lawson winning the Superstars of Superkarts race at
Laguna Seca last year. Rainey and Lawson own the karts that will be
used for the race.
“I think Kenny [Roberts] thinks he’s just going to go out there and
slide it around. They don’t quite slide like that, like I think he’s
thinking,” said Rainey. “It’s going to wake him up a little bit. He’s
going to have fun. It’s going to be a little bit different than
