kenny_roberts_Moto2.jpgKenny Roberts plans to reenter international motorcycle racing in next year’s Moto2 class. The former world champion ran a team in MotoGP until 2007, when he became frustrated with his lack of competitiveness. Intended to reduce the cost of racing, Moto2 is replacing 250cc two-strokes with CBR600RR-based four-stroke engines.

“I’d like to get a couple of young American riders,” Roberts told Cycle
News
, he’s planning on entering a two-rider team. “Getting them young
enough or late enough so they can win. We want to be up front, because
it’s rough selling if you’re not up front.”

Great news! Too bad Kurtis and Jr. didn’t have sons;-)

Maybe Moto2 won’t be so boring after all.

I really hope his team is competitive in the Moto2. I look forward to seeing what kind of racers he gets for his team.

  • Isaac

Hey this is some great news. Maybe he can grab Hays and Zemke?

  • Ben(pi)

Didn’t they already list the teams for ’10? I seem to recall they filled the grid with current MotoGP teams plus something like 3 others. I didn’t pay any attention, so maybe KR was on there. Anybody know?

  • monkeyfumi

Steve Bonsey is most likely. KR spotted him in dirt track, and took him to GPs. His ride fizzled out the year due to lack of sponsorship, I beleive.
Much better than getting guys that have been kicking round AMA, superbike etc just doesn’t seem like the ideal path to GP.

“…because it’s rough selling if you’re not up front.”

Something tells me that is supposed to be “rough sailing”.

    • aeolus

I took it as he meant what he said…selling in the sense of finding sponsors. The back markers are only briefly shown on TV and not at all in the interview room.

    These are great news.
I wish this team to be as succesful as when Wayne Rainey was in there.
    Great guys.

“We want to be up front, because it’s rough selling if you’re not up front.”

-NOT REALLY, IT’S CALLED MARKETING. YOU JUST NEED TO SELL WHAT YOU HAVE, NOT WHAT YOU THINK YOU NEED TO SELL. GO BACK TO UNIVERSITY KR. AMERICANS…
