Icon teases with horny Speed Cretin and the Wall of Death

Sure, Icon’s new $210 Speed Cretin helmet is terribly kitsch with those wacky horns and no self-respecting rider would be caught dead wearing it. But as an homage to Rat Fink hooliganism and West Coast speed culture, we bet it will be a home run for the Icon demographic. Further ingratiating the company in Americana, and showing the rest of the conservative bike industry how proper branding and advertising is done, Icon have released a teaser on their Youtube channel of the helmet in action in the Wheel of Death. Say what you will about Icon’s style, this company is reaching out to new, young riders and promoting safety in really exciting ways.

    its…ummmm…. horny?

  • Hooligan

Umm, I’ll keep my Scorpion. Thanks. :)

But I do give kudos to Icon, they actually try to make gear exciting enough to wear. And their stuff is well made. I have two jackets and three pairs of gloves from them.

  • Ryan

    Would definitely wear it.

  • eye

They definitely know what they’re doing as far as graphics and materials and Im sure there’s an explanation behind those horns… maybe.

  • Robert

I’ll bet the trend setting west coast based café racer focused Cretins Motorcycle Club just loves this.

    Do not want.

  • Chris

    Epic Fail.

Icon’s marketing is very good, but I wonder if their leathers and helmet designers ever talk with each other. Both seem to be going in opposite directions with the apparel designers creating some halfway decent retro looking designs and their helmet designers creating costumes that ComiCon attendees would love.

  • jwinter

Only in America would people actually buy crap marketed specifically to dummies and cretins.

  • Hiwatt Scott

I see an oppurtunity here: Start making helmets with interchangeable top vent covers. Pop em on and off like a visor. Horny monster today, roman gladiator tomorrow. Laugh if you want, but the guy who came up with the helmet mohawk has made a mint!

  • Case

I think this is hideous. On the other hand, I’m not Icon’s target demographic. Maybe because I think mohawk helmets and ‘stuntas’ are lame.

  • Subaruzi

    @Case

Hey man don’t you know it is ‘Stuntaz’

Offer it in a dynamic matte black and I’ll pay attention.

HELMET MANUFACTURERS: WHAT IS WRONG WITH OFFERING HEMLETS IN SOLID COLOURS.

  • Beatpusher

Will, Icon offers solid helmets. So does everyone else.

    • http://www.txsbr.com/ Ben

Agreed. Heck, some even advertise them. It’s a crazy world we live in.

  • Speedealer

Shark jumping eh? Well its gotta start somewhere…

Icon clearly caters to a particular audience. That audience… is not me.

I wouldn’t want it myself, but I can totally see this becoming popular with the type of young rider who would wear one of those mohawks or those stick on ears/tails.

I look at it and see storage nightmare. I would break those horns off in less than a week.

Everytime I see those horns, I have to laugh. I just can’t take anyone serious in that, assuming that individual was taking themself seriously.

I actaully have an Icon jacket, helmet, and gloves. The helmet is the latest addition, replacing an AGV. The jacket (leather aromored daytona) served me well in a low speed lowside a few years back and is still going strong.

  • matt

I’m pretty sure those aren’t intended for people who take themselves very seriously. lol Looks like someone’s having fun to me. Oh wait, maybe I’m not supposed to say that about motorcycling… its only fun when you’re scraping knees, right?

Cretins Motorcycle Club – DO NOT LIKE! DO NOT LIKE! DO NOT LIKE! DO NOT LIKE!

  • NotSteve

i’d be embarrassed to wear anything w/ ICON’s logo stamped on it, plus I’d probably be ignored at the bars

  • scudzuki

I may get one for a track day helmet. It would loosen me up for each session just putting the ridiculous thing on.

    Joe

  • Wizard

I don’t care what you guys think, this thing is fun and awesome. On the road no one is going to see anything other than a green blur anyway.

    Also, the horns are removable.
