Reminder: motorcycle racing is dangerous

Chris_Martin_Crash.jpgBritish Supersport rider Chris Martin suffered a mechanical failure of some kind at Brands Hatch on Sunday, bouncing several feet over the barrier during a spectacular crash. He’ll race again, but not this season. >

Report from team Gearlink Kawasaki:

Chris has suspected 3 broken vertebrae, will not know for sure until neck/back specialist has seen him. He has broken his ankle and will now be out of action for the rest of the season…..:-((

Looks like he had mechanical failure with the rear wheel locking up. All the protective gear in the world won’t help in that situation.

“All the protective gear in the world won’t help in that situation.”

I’m going out on a limb here and saying the safety gear helped quite a bit. I’m guessing it would have been a bit more severe had he been wearing flip-flops and a hoodie.

mutha of gawd, how did he catch such extream air there at the end…?

  • the_doctor

Wow, that was a serious flight. Poor ol Chris Martin. He just can’t seem to catch a break (aside from vertebrae and ankles).

“I’ll tell you what, I’ll tell you what, that, he was very, very lucky there…”

That crash is the definition of “Unlucky”.

Glad he’s ‘alright’. MM wouldn’t be to stoked on this tracks ‘safety’.

no doubt….the racer was ejected out of bounds, beyond the painful tire barrier.

That once happened to me when I was “making the love” to a girlfriend. My one piece protective gear did not help me. Never do it on the roof of a house.

    That’ll screw Coldplay’s next tour.
