2010 Ducati Hypermotard 796: not as dumb as feared

Galleries -

Early indications were that the 2010 Ducati Hypermotard 796 would lose the single-sided swingarm and integrated brush guards/mirrors/indicators. It doesn’t and it even comes in nice colors — matte white (seen here), matte black or good ol’ red. No word on engine details or weight yet, but it’s supposed to be priced under $10,000. More info as the leak continues.

Update: 167kg (dry), 81bhp, 56lb/ft of torque, slipper clutch. 800cc engine is described as “completely new,” returns 49mpg, 20mm lower seat. Priced at €7990 in Europe. Frame redesigned to eliminate “forged elements,” new triple clamp.

Update 2: The 796 will retail for $9,995 when it goes on sale in the US in December.

I like it, it looks like a small expensive turd.

Full specs are on Ducati’s site this morning

    81hp (59.6kW) of power and 55.7lb-ft (7.7kgm) of torque

HP is similar to the 1100 but torque, obviously, is way down.

Yeah, there’s nothing on Ducati that we don’t have here. We just got there a few hours earlier.

Interesting the way Aprilia and Ducati give their “budget”-versions much nicer paintjobs and an overall classier look. More cash = Bad taste?
Still think this thing is way over-designed, I’d take a second hand Multistrada(!)over this any day.

Seems like a natural progression for model line. The tasteful color scheme tones its “moose face” down some, too.

Honestly, I’m surprised that I actually like it.

    • http://hellforleathermagazine.com Wes Siler

Just added it in. October for Europe, December for the US.

It seems white is the new black.

But shouldn’t Ducati and Aprilia know it’s a fashion faux pas to release a white motorbike after Labor Day?

I kind of like it… The 1100cc version seemed like overkill, but this seems just about right. Bet it would be fun around a tight racetrack…

  • Sam

It sounds like a great bike. I only wish the tank were a bit bigger…

    • David Patton

There is an aftermarket tank (6.4 gallons) for the Hypermotard 1100 – perhaps it will fit this smaller brother.

  • Marshall

167Kg? That’s roughly 370lbs isn’t it? That seems pretty heavy for being the smaller Hyper…
