Planet bike: countries mapped by motorcycles

Dailies -

By

Bikes_by_Population.jpgThis map adjusts the sizes of countries according to the percentage of the world’s powered two-wheelers that are used there. As you can see, there’s way more bikes in Asia than here in the land of the free and the home of the cage. A little confusingly, there’s also data  giving the number of bikes per people, with Malaysia and Greece topping the list with around one bike per every five people. I’m a sucker for this kind of mapping, or Envisioning Information. The Hell for Leather bike reviews with the graphs representing qualities that are not quite quantifiable, were my first attraction to this site. They remind me of David Byrne’s Envisioning Emotional Epistemological Information http://www.davidbyrne.com/art/eeei/index.php

Very interesting. Its sad, I am not a motorcycle rider yet. I hope to add to this list when I am financially able to do so.

I’ve done my research, had it done for a while and know I want a Suzuki v-strom 650, with ABS.

Maybe Suzuki will add another color scheme option by the time I am ready to buy.

That’s an excellent choice for a first bike. I hear they’re a bargain used right now too.
