Retro: Honda EZ Snow

Dailies -

Honda_ez-snow.jpgThe product of a now-defunct program that encouraged young Honda designers to experiment and have fun, the Honda EZ Snow premiered as a concept at the 1991 Tokyo Motor Show. Based on the Honda EZ 90 Cub — probably the most successful interpretation of Honda’s late ’80s/early ’90s fully enclosed fairing theme — the Snow added a front ski and a miniaturized version of a snowmobile track. The EZ Snow never reached production, but replicas have since proven popular among garage tinkerers and clearly influenced the Slidescooter. There’s a short video below. >

Looks fantastic but with that motor I can’t imagine it’d be much fun for anything but really tight spaces, weaving across a hillside through trees, for instance…

The fairing reminds me of my 1988 Hurricane 1000. It is a shame they never produced this back then…just imagine what they would have developed into if the followed the development arc of the CBR600 and CBR900/954/1000.

Just goes to show: never let young engineers have fun. That’s what retirement’s for.
