Excursion: Florence

HFL, Positions -

excursionFlorence.jpgFounded by Julius Caesar in 59 BC along the banks of the Arno River in the heart of Tuscany, Florence is historically one of the most influential cultural centers of the Western world, rivaling Rome and Athens. It also happens to be filled with narrow and tortuous streets, perfect for scooters.

Maybe I’m just over-cautious, but is almost-but-not-quite touching the muffler really a good place to keep one’s pressurized can of “Ripari una Deflazione”?

Great pictures. Did you get a chance to ride in the countryside? Any further Florence travel tips?

So far, this looks like your best photo essay to date. Sublime. The ambience of the light conditions is absolutely perfect. Thanks.

Amazing how clean the water is or is it? Didn’t see any trash floating. Why all the graffiti I wonder?

I was in Florence in March. Beautiful city, and there are scooters EVERYWHERE. Your description of ‘utilitarian’ bikes is very accurate.

Nice pics – thanks for this great photo essay!

That’s a beautiful BMW R45 there. Though last time I was in Florence I was lucky enough to see this gorgeous Bianchi Bianchina 125cc parked right around the corner from the Ponte Vecchio (next to a classic Mini Cooper and a slightly-banged up Citroen DS), which pretty much made my entire trip.

I was gonna say the same thing bzr, that BMW R45 just looks right sitting there in that photo. Plenty of Italian scooters, but it seems the real bikes on the street were either Japanese or BMWs.
