2010 Triumph Thruxton SE: white paint, red frame

The 2010 Triumph Thruxton SE adds a new “crystal white” paint scheme with a red stripe, a red powdercoated frame, a dinky flyscreen, black engine cases and new decals to the base Thruxton’s handsome cafe racer look. There’s no mechanical upgrades, so that means a 230kg dry weight and an 865cc parallel-twin with 68bhp and 51lb/ft of torque. We hope that colored frames are going to become a hallmark of “SE” Triumphs, like the Triumph Daytona 675 SE, it’s a uniquely handsome feature.

    Love the look. I’ve been a fan of the Thruxton on the surface since its debut and don’t even mind the smallish power #’s. That is, until you match it with the bikes heft; not bad if it were still the 1960s or 70s. Unlike the rest of the Bonnie range, this one’s all gussied up to look like it’ll haul ass, not have a fat one.

    What’s unique about it? Ducati and Guzzi both do the colored frames to varied effect.

    I could be messing up my Guzzi terminology, but isn’t that reminiscent of the “Tonti” frame?

      Sort of. Guzzis genious engineer Lino Tonti and team produced a “special edition” of the venerable V7 Sport with a red frame, hence the term “telaio rosso” which means just that: Red frame.

    Still has the same problem it always had for me, a messy rear end. The seat cowl and the mudguard just don’t go together. If they got rid of the ‘guard and put a hugger on it’d look much neater.

    I’m not happy that they raised the bars either, though that probably made it more attractive to the arthritic 40-somethings who’ll mostly buy it.

    Other than that I like it!

    Nice. I really like powder-coated frames, when done in colors that work. The Thruxton is a cafe racer-ish bike I would be very interested in.

    This is one of those motorcycles that looks gorgeous in the Sunshine. I got to ride a Thruxton to Hot Springs this past summer and absolutely loved it. Yeah, it is almost 1-1/2 times as heavy as my Daytona 675 and half as powerful…but it had Arrow exhaust and was a looker. Fortunately (or unfortunately), Hot Springs busy main drag has many large plate glass windows in which you can admire you and your ride. When we parked, the Thruxton gathered much admiration and tons of questions. Even the herd of Harley boys that was clustered near by came to look. And the subsequent ride down HWY 7 was a joy.

    I have a bright red ’08 Thrux. Half the fun of these things is customizing them to look any way you want. I removed the rear fender for a much sportier rear end and made dozens of performance and suspension upgrades. The bike rides like a dream now and it’s pretty easy and cheap to free up a dozen or so more ponies. More importantly though, it gets comments everywhere it goes. Once you put some pipes on it and free up that fantastic parallel twin noise, people can’t stop ogling.

      I have an ’01 Triumph Bonny (essent’y same bike, but 790cc. with N.Hyde ‘M’ bars & seat) and just love it! Best for one-up, rides about 1 – 11/2 hrs. I love the look of this Thruxton & will think seriously about updating to one of these this Spring. Pete, I’d also be interested to hear about your hp upgrades!

    Since when has triumph tried to mimic Ducati? this is an attemt to capture the ‘i can’t afford a 1000sport’ marketing ploy. This is not a modern cafe racer, it is a ducati replica on looks alone. no one in their right mind would buy this colour machine. Cafe racers around the world cringe…
