TTXGP partners with UEM, announces eGrandPrix European Championship at Albacete

Dailies -

TTXGP_Albacete.jpgMC24 has broken news that the 2010 eGrandPrix race season will now culminate with a championship race organized by the European Motorcycle Union at Spain’s Albacete circuit. The date has yet to be announced, but the addition of this championship gives the fledgling electric motorcycle racing organization not only four-race national series in the UK and Italy and three races in North America, but also a headline event at the Isle of Man TT and now an officially sanctioned European Championship event. That makes the FIM and its e-Power series look a little silly. After splitting with TTXGP and stealing its rules, the FIM is left with something it calls a “World Championship,” but no participating teams and only a handful of tentative dates. Full list of circuits, dates and participating teams below. >

    Wes, are you and Grant planning on going to VIR instead of Infineon now?

    • Wes Siler

      @The Doctor: who knows, but I hate Virginia’s speed enforcement so even though it’s easier to get there I may give it a miss.

      @Jordan: separate series.

    Many probably don’t remember but this same thing happened in snowboarding. At one time there was a sanctioning body created by the boarders themselves and the international ski sanctioning body. One day the International body decided to take over. There were a few years that some of the best riders didn’t compete in the important competitions but, in the end, the international body had the resources, the credibility, and the ability to stand the test of time.

  • Jordan

    Are these separate series, or do they expect these teams to travel to 13 events all over the US, UK, and Europe? That would be a very expensive series to run in.

    what bike is that in the picture?

    I’m curious if FIM is rethinking that split. If so I’m also wondering if TTXGP would take them back if the asked.

    Meh. I doubt it on both counts.

    Actually, Azhar Hussain has said that one day, he hopes to work with the FIM again. He’s not a bridge-burner, from what I can tell.

    Hi Guys,

    Date for TTXGP Final/UEM 2010 is October 24th, 2010.

    Each team only needs to go to the national championships. Points are awarded for team and rider.

    Best 6 teams from each national championship will be invited to Albacete for the final.

    The Isle of Man is a standalone event and not tied to any national championship due to its unique rider and technology challenges.

    Hope to see you all soon.

    Either way this can’t be bad. I’d rather see two bodies competing than none at all. It’s great to see so much support for alternative energy. Anyone hiring in SoCal?

    @The Grudz,
