2010 MotoCzysz E1pc spied at TT Zero practice

2010-MotoCysz-E1pc-2.jpgThese photos shows the completed 2010 MotoCzysz E1pc preparing to practice for the Isle of Man’s TT Zero electric motorcycle race. Clearly visible are the 10 1.25kWh battery packs, incredibly diminutive tail section and the huge swingarm. But where’s the motor? We actually know the answer to that and every other question about the bike, but are under embargo until early next week, when we’ll bring you real photos too.

Update: new high-res photo of the front 3/4 added above. During this evening’s practice the E1pc suffered mechanical problems, completing the 37.7-mile mountain lap, but only managing an average speed of 74.668mph, which doesn’t compare favorably to Team Agni’s 84.875mph lap.

Update 2: Michael Czysz, who is still on our shit list, says, “Anyway it is NOT the finished bike! it is missing fairing parts : ) Today in Q1 we hit 122+ down sulby straight!  Some of the ICE bikes only hit 140(ish) Agnis was 95(ish)  with a top speed on course of 129.6

Calibration mess up and we communicated to the rider via on board info that we had more power than we did.  We had a massive (conformed from our spotter on course, can’t tell you the actual time but is was huge!) lead and our rider started using more throttle to soon and the bike ran out of bat 1.5 miles form finish (hauntingly familiar to last year except last year we also encountered failures, not this year)

Another calibration test tomorrow and another Q session on Monday- spirits very HIGH here tonight!!!

    So it’s got at least two motors, linked via left-side chain, and somewhere on the right there’s a smallish sprocket driving a chain that goes to the wheel.

    This thing looks like it means business.

    It says 10 battery packs, I count 5 on one side.
    Some kind of “pancake” motor in the middle.
    small chain on left is direct drive, into some type of transmission?

    The basic batteries/motor pack has structural functions, it seems, as the swingarm is attached to it. The single motor is linked to the visible sprocket/chain in the right side, which then moves the secondary chain, that also seems not affected by suspension travel in a BMW G450X-like solution.

    Nice to see that technology neatly packed in a sexy bodywork. Only the batteries exposed detract from the aerodynamics, but they sure need refrigeration and easy access to be swapped.

    Not sure if any of you have noticed the details in the cad drawings of the motor…. but the output sprocket is above the motor shaft….. looks to me like some sort of internal gearing up to the output sprocket…. probably to step up the sprocket rpm…. They never mention RPM in any of there specs…. with that rear tire and additional batteries and there speed of 129mph my guess is an motor speed about 3800rpm

    The saddle and the tail are kinda eh…but I need to see the whole machine first.

    I really do want to like it, but MotoCzysz bikes seem to be like vapid playboy bunnies. Great at stirring desire, great to look at, great presentation but no actual substance.

    Like every MotoCzysz so far (ICE, Electric, theoretic, you name it) this thing looks great and is claimed to be fast, revolutionary, mind blowing, etc. but has yet to actually accomplish anything.

    If they actually win, or even finish, the TT (or any real race for that matter) I will start allowing myself some genuine interest again.

    Keep the photos coming though, I will gladly tack them on the garage wall next the Playboy Bunnies, Ferraris, and other assorted exotic and beautiful things out there with photos as their only real proof of existence, at least in the world most of us inhabit.

    The ICE bike actualy hit 190-200mph down the Sulby Straight!

    for the little stuff, just needs to work more
    on the big picture, less bling, more wing.

    Hmm… The more I look at that bike, the weirder it gets. What is he doing with a front suspension? In the drawing shown in the link below, it looks like he’s running a shock and spring in the steering stem, and the “forks” are really just sliders used for steering.

    Whatever it is, it’s strange and confusing.

    Another point of weirdness is the motor/sprocket setup. Chain jacking can be setup to help everything, and it seems he’s gone through a lot of trouble to eliminate it.

    The rear suspension in that drawing also seems a little weird, there’s a small damper(?) under the main (?) shock, which seems to be a conventional spring/damper type by the nitrogen reservoir. Any clues?

    As far as the suspension goes, the front is supposedly an evolution of the 6X Flex design from the C1 – it’s pretty much as you describe Sean, as can sort of be seen in [url=http://image.motorcyclistonline.com/f/8970843/122_0507_03z+2005_czysz_c1_990+front_side_view.jpg]this pic[/url].

    The rear suspension is said to be adjustable via a “[url=http://www.motorcyclistonline.com/features/122_0910_international_racing_competition/photo_16.html]pushrod-actuated rocker mechanism[/url]” but isn’t shown here. I’m guessing that’s what the damper looking thing is in that drawing.

    All-in-all, I agree with MTGR for the most part. There are some cool ideas, but they need to all work before it’s as great as Czysz claims.
