Italy's wet dream comes true

Rossi-Ducati.jpgMCN is reporting, on its cover, that the ink has dried on a Valentino Rossi/Ducati deal for next season. The news comes from an unspecified “insider,” who goes on to report the sticking point with Yamaha wasn’t just money, but Rossi’s objection to racing alongside Jorge Lorenzo for another season. Rossi said last year, “Yamaha have to decide between me and Jorge for 2011.” According to the article, Ducati will be paying Rossi $15 million for a two-year contract.

    Duc, Duc, Goose.

This totally makes up for the vyper

    • robotribe

      Almost, but great news nonetheless.

Here’s the beginning of the end of Rossi’s dominance. Looks like Jorge (rather than Casey) is going to be the pretender to the throne.

  • Zirq

I suppose this also leaves an open seat for Mr Spies next year, which perhaps, may be bigger news.

  • vic

so is stoner going to honda?

    Sweet! A Joey Dunlop pull-out!

So Rossi is in his twilight racing years, and opening up a spot on the factory team. Give Ben Spies a year to adjust to the GP paddock, then plop him on the fastest bike on the grid and see what he can do……I think the answer will be – kick ass.

I would love to see Rossi get on the desmo though and take what many say to be a difficult bike and just clean up on it. In the hands of the doc, that power out of the corner could be volatile.

    Sweet baby Jesus!

While MCN is putting this on the cover, I will believe it when i sees it. I have been burned way to many times by “insiders.”

My wish list rider n team motoGP in 2011:
    Rossi & Hayden (Ducati Marlboro)
    Lorenzo & Spies (Petronas Yamaha)
    Stoner & Dovizioso (Repsol Honda)
    Pedrosa & Elias(Monster Tech3 Yamaha)
Simoncelli & de Puniet(Castrol Gresini Honda)
    Bautista & Melandri (Rizla Suzuki)

surprising news, this’s all about Italy ;)

  • MotoGP accountant

Ducati won’t be paying a bean for Rossi, Marlboro will be paying it all.

Rossi’s opportunity here is to develop the Duc 1000cc bike for 2012 from the ground up.. Everyone wins. He gets back on a 1000cc, Duc gets the best development rider, and the fans get them both..

Hell even Hayden wins with a new 1000cc bike between his legs!

  • @TOV_Gerald

Actually Hayden loses with this deal. No way he is going to beat Rossi to the title as his teammate.

  • RagingBull

Not surprising at all (if it’s true). Most MotoGP race fans assumed that The Doctor would end up at Ducati at some point in his career. Wayne Gardner predicted last week that this switch would take place and thought it’d be good for the sport. Agostini stated at IOMTT that Rossi should campaign on an Italian bike one day. Lorenzo and Rossi = oil and water. I can’t wait for the 2011 season to begin. It’ll be interesting for sure.

  • sburns2421

Other things I have read stated that Yamaha wanted Rossi to take a pay cut due to the economic problems, but would also be offering Lorenzo more money. You could take this as Rossi takes less so they could pay Lorenzo. You would think he would take that as an insult as the most successful rider Yamaha has ever had.

I wouldn’t be in any hurry to come back to ride the M1 and finally get back on the bike only as a lame duck after news of Ducati signing him late in the summer has already been leaked.

Rossi/Ducati is a dream pairing to raise MotoGP to new levels.

can you imagine mugello in 2011? The place will be insane, absolutely insane. After his contract is up he should just become the prime minister

totally!!! no more segregation between the Ducati fans and the Rossi fans! It will be one big orange miasma of yellow and red hysteria!!! god, I can’t wait to go back. This year was shit, for a Rossi fan going to Mugello specifically to see Rossi race. For a female at a race in Italy, it wasn’t half bad. It’ll be all good next year if I only bring female friends…

  • capo998

I am buying tickets for Muggelo and Missano ASAP.

If the rummors about the 1000 cc from the next champ are true it will be fun to see JLo trying to adjust…

  • powermatic

Actually, that’s 15 million euros, or about $18 million. Or about 12 million English pounds. And to be clear, it’s per year, for the two year contract. Also included (supposedly) the right to at least test for Ferrari F1 and/or Fiat rallye at the end of the contract period.

It’s the ultimate proof that Valentino is a Ducati man yet!!

  • ToeCutter

Good Luck beating Lorenzo Spies and Stoner next year!!! hhahah

  • RT Moto

There is a GOD!!! I can’t wait to see the Doc in that Ducati Red. It’s going to be a sign of the end of times. Shit just can’t get this good without it coming with some bad news.

  • brandnreal

Bring it on !!!.. Rossi to Ducati wow!!!

  • grizzlyslippers

I think if Rossi was going to move to Ducati, 2011 would be the best year for it. Being Rossi he’s going to automatically be competitive and be in it for a shot at title on the Duc. So it’s not really a year lost like some people would assume. He’ll have final veto on the development of the 2012 1000cc bike… and just as importantly Yamaha won’t have Rossi’s input on their new bike (no leg up for Lorenzo). No discredit to Lorenzo, and his achievements. I just don’t think he would have been as successful on anything other than Rossi’s bike.
