One reason why the TT is so dangerous

Archibald-Martin-TT-Pass.jpgTake two adrenalin-fueled masochists with all their concentration solely focussed on winning, put them on the same roads at the same time and something like this is invariably going to happen. That doesn’t lessen the impact watching Adrian Archibald cut off Guy Martin with millimeters to spare as the two are flat out on their 600s. If my sphincter tightened this much at home, I can’t imagine Guy’s reaction. Gary Inman compared the psychology of TT racers to that of soldiers or fighter pilots, this video really drives that home.

The TT actually staggers starts and riders are racing against the clock,
not each other, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t passes as a faster
rider catches up to a slower one. If Guy was fighting this hard for
second place, only to have it stripped for a minor speed infraction in
the pit lane, then it explains why he was so damned pissed at the press
conference.

Today’s TT racing, including the TT Zero, has been postponed till tomorrow due to rain.

  • http://www.txsbr.com Ben!

    Good lord.

  • Baron Von Dangerously

    I nearly crapped myself.

    That is a nice course.

  • Backhome77

Isle of Man is definitely on the bucket list.

  • PeteP

Go! I went in ’89. Best trip ever!

  • Homo Misiac

    Hey Wes,

Nobody wants to read about your sphincter on this blog. Wrong blog I guess.

  • Teebles

Poor ol’ Guy, the man’s such a legend.

  • Core

Oh wow! …. I can definitely see why the man would be upset after going through that.

  • Deshi

I went in ’99… EXCELLENT! I was told it was a good year, the weather was nice and ONLY 9 died on the course that year! Not so sure of that bucket list entry… maybe Mad Sunday

Motogp is nice, WSBK is a great show, but the TT is the only reason why this sport has been invented. To race in it you need to have balls the size of houses: its a near-death experience at each corner, curb, low wall, pole and obstacle.
God save TT and Guy Martin.

  • Geoffrey Roy Wells

The UK ITV4 channel is showing highlights every night and because of the washed out Wednesday they had Guy do a commentary on that lap. He didn’t even raise his voice when that event happened, just said “that was OK I trust Adrian, no problem”. It would be good to see him land a win.

  • Ronny

Let’s see that straightline douchebag with the S1000RR taking top speed videos on the interstate and then think he’s “representin’” do this.

  • abe

That wasn’t an “event”, Adrian didn’t “cut Guy off” and had there been any contact there it would have been entirely Guy’s fault. Did you notice that racebikes don’t have mirrors?
