Andre Villa makes FMX a real spectator sport

andre villa.jpgCurrent World Tour leader Andre Villa experienced a slight mishap at the Red Bull X Fighters event in London, launching himself 15 meters into the air before landing in the crowd. Luckily Villa managed to drop the bike on the right side of the security fence. Video after the jump.

Villa escaped with a concussion, stiff neck and a bit of backache, and went on to finish ninth in the competition. Five of the spectators were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

- Two of them were taken away on stretchers. They are all ok, but one of them spent the night at the hospital for observation. I’ve met her today, Villa told VG.no today.

To Villa’s credit, it looks like he pulled off the extremely difficult Gnarly Egyptian before he hit the deck. Awesome!

“Spectator sport”. In poor taste, given recent events.

What? You mean the spectators have no responsibility for their own safety? They attend these events for the thrill and risk. If they feel the rewards outweigh the risks, they accept the consequences. I’m not saying it’s good when spectators are hurt/killed at these events; it comes with the territory.

nfs- you get that close to that kind of ‘activity’ and you take the big ol’ risk- there’s a reason you need a press-pass to get right next to the guardrail at road courses; there’s a reason they don’t let just anybody nuzzle an Orca; there’s a reason you can’t jump in with the Gorillas at the zoo.
Have we become such pussy’s that we think everyone else will take care of us, and that’s why we don’t have to use some basic reasoning to understand that you might get your ass kicked by that motor vehicle flying by just three feet away?
Well girls your lawyer-mommies ain’t always gonna pull your lame butt out of harms way at the last second. Use the same skill-set you exercised when you bought that helmet- mitigate risk and crank up that cognitive motor.
