Destination: Labrador

Dailies -

Destination-Labrador.jpgOver the next two weeks, Grant and I will be riding a BMW R1200GS and BMW F800GS through Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, Labrador and Quebec. A lot of that time is going to be spent in remote areas without the slightest chance of web access, but we’ll be updating you with images, stories and videos via Twitter where possible. This story will remain at the top of the site throughout the duration of the trip, but our contributing editor Ivar Kvadsheim will be providing you with new content through this period, just scroll down to find it.

As you can imagine, we’re going to get really sick of each other after about the first day, so please chime in with questions, suggestions or just make fun of us. The easiest way to do that is through Twitter, but don’t worry Luddites, we’ll be checking comments too. Let us know the kind of stories you want to see.

Update: we’ve emerged from the wilderness. Back to your regularly scheduled programming shortly.

Should a break down happen, I’d like a thorough report on how you managed to fix it.
I’d love to go on a trip like that but I am too much of a city boy to make repairs in the wild.
Hoping you get a great trip and I am looking forward to reading all about it.

  • the_doctor

Oh man, I should have told you guys to watch Strange Brew before you left. Now you will be completely unprepared when you run into the typical Canadian.

  • Sasha Pave

So which one of you will be the Ewan and which one will be the Charlie? :)

Have a blast and good luck up there!

  • AadmanZ

I’ll be standing by for the story about how you guys get kicked out of some small town for doing a burnout in the ladies room..

    • Brammofan

      AadnanZ FTW.
Have fun, guys. If you can actually get through this trip without using the word “epic,” I will be quite impressed, indeed.

  • Glenn

I saw a couple of guys in Needham, MA on GSs, one on a white F800, the other on a red R1200, both loaded and carrying gas cans. Looked like fun, although they won’t need those gas cans for a while…

    • http://Http:// Wes Siler

That was us. I’m on the white 800, grants on the red 1200. We’re going to need those gas cans where we’re going, but they’re empty for now.

  • Jeff

Is the F800′s seat stock? My butt was numb after 100 km with the stock seat.

  • Isaac

Hey Wes how about an Android App for your blog?

  • ADV_Dow

Saw some ride reports from this area on ADVrider. Can’t wait to see how you put the HFL spin on it. Beautiful country!

  • Travis

I would like to see some female strippers get involved… hahaha. Make it happen. ;)

  • Isaac

My only question is: Who’s pitching?

LOL, J/K guys have a great trip. Maine sucks, been there done that. Rhode Island is even worse! And Connecticut has only ONE hotel on I-5 South I swear it does.

  • Isaac

    Correction 95S

  • Glenn

Jesus, I saw you. You were at a gas station in Needham, MA. I wish I had been in a position to wander over and say something, but I was interviewing someone at Blue on Highland.

  • noone1569

I get a ‘lil jealous everytime I see a new update on HFL. I’d love to take a journey like this. Hmm… maybe one day . . maybe.

Have fun and be semi-safe guys. I’ll be enjoying my $10 beer at IndyGP

  • Natives MC

Hey guys if you’re not hittin’ at least 130mph offroad on those things then you have no business riding them!

J/k Be safe, sounds like a blast.

  • Les B

did you end up hitting the cabot trail, or did shedule push that off? Curious what you thought of those roads

    • http://Http:// Wes Siler

Skipped it, we’ve got more remote places to be.

  • SK

haha welcome to the NL ferry! i was on it two weeks ago, what an awful experience! how long did you guys have to wait in the parking lot? and did they fix the AC?
and welcome to Maritimes, you will love Newfoundlanders! get ready to be screeched in!

  • Darth Lefty

How do you like your Vario cases on the R12? I am not a fan and I wonder what an actual journalist thinks.

    • http://Http:// Wes Siler

They’re pretty whimpy next to the apocalyptically tough Jesse cases on the 8.

      • http://Http:// Grant Ray

But I don’t have to remove one of them every time I need to put in gas.

I have yet to meet the perfect solution for the sides, but the topbox is a winner. It’s just so easy to pop off and carry like a suitcase.

  • Jefferson

That is the worst song that I have ever heard. Ever. And I have heard nearly half of “Miracles” by ICP. That guy should have his hands cut off so he can’t do it again.

  • http://Http:// Skadamo

Man, just found the Wes / David Lee Roth video. How did I miss that masterpiece of motomountig?

  • Rob

Beer and doughnuts for breakfast I hope?

  • Michael

Sorry to hear about Grant’s Rukka one piece suit leaking. He should try the Rev’It Infinity One Piece. Mine has never leaked.

    • http://Http:// Grant Ray

The Rukka didn’t leak. I just thought it did because the stretchy material was soaked after hours of getting pelted, and pressing on the liner, making it feel cold and damp. Everything was fine and dry when I pulled the pants off to check for leaking.

  • Michael

I’m glad Wes is alright after the get off. Keep on rockin’!

  • noone1569

Bummer about the get off Wes! I see you gave up a mirror to the bike gods. Hopefully that will keep them happy for the remainder. Looks like great fun guys!

Jealous. . . that is all.

  • dave

can’t get twitter/facebook in china so no idea whats going on.

  • Papasan

For the insect bites: Try small amounts of diluted salt in H2o, make a clean compress, it will relieve the itch and swelling…

Good Luck and don’t forget to write!

  • Deb

great you are home safe and sound!!followed you the whole way-thanks for the fabulous trip!!

  • noone1569
