This photo of the 2011 Ducati 1198 SP was snapped on the Intermot show floor just moments ago, a day before the show’s press day. So what’s an SP? Well, take an outgoing 1198S, add a slipper clutch, aluminum tank, a $1,400 Ohlins TTX shock, a quickshifter and a few other options, but — this is the kicker — we hear all that’s only going to cost $100 over the price of last year’s 1198S. Has Ducati suddenly decided to become the bargain of exotic Italian superbikes?

Update: a second picture below.

Update 2: now we’ve got video courtesy of Oliepeil.nl

Awesome. I bet its only $100 more because of the HFL logo on the fairing. Cheapens it.

      We’re subsidizing every purchase.

        I will take 2!

  • AGP

Hot damn! Drooling all over my iPad right now… :)

  • MikeD

    I hate BEING BROKE…(-_- )’
At any rate, how much $$$ was the late 1198S to begin with?

  • ElDiablo

Too bad that bike is such an outdated, underpowered pile that it wouldn’t be competitive at all in World Superbike.

    • MikeD

Would u care to elaborate more on your comment? By the way, i don’t own one of these.

    • MikeD

P.S: I don’t care for WSBK, Tell about it from a street use perspective and why it SUCKS.

      • ElDiablo

        That is called sarcasm MikeD.

        • MikeD

Oh!, OK then…different opinions are ok with me tho.

  • SPEKTRE76

So, what so ‘SP’ about it aside from the 2008 black 1098?

100cc’s and the same paint scheme?

Seriously Ducati when did you become H-D?

    • Sally

      Someone needs to RTFA..

      • MikeD

        LMAO…i said the same.

      • SPEKTRE76

So does someone else. It’s not an SP. It’s a bike with parts bin add-ons and some some new badging.

        RTFA…..again

    • http://hellforleathermagazine.com Wes Siler

Yeah! Screw you Ducati for trying to give us $5,000+ worth of upgrades for a $100 premium! We don’t want your charity!

    • crimsoncloak

      Slipper+Alloy tank = conchos?

  • http://www.thisblueheaven.com Mark D

Something about the orange frame bums me out. Or is it just weird coloring via the camera/my monitor?

    • SRADfighter

Ducati Red show orange in photos sometimes. The same phenomenon occurred when Hayden spilled the beans on the 2010 desmosedici.

  • brandnreal

so basically its around $20,000 something for an S model and add $100 for an SP logo.. whow!!!! If I have money it’s a bargain… but I’ll stick with my 1098 for now…

    • JimSmiffy

Whow!!(sic) What is this an illiterate retard convention? Read the fuckin article, before you post.

    Good for Ducati.

Most likely trying to shift units before they introduce the new model. I was wondering what they were going to do – not very smart to have a firesale. (From what I hear there are alot of 1198 and even 1098′s sitting around gathering dust here in Australia, I can’t imagine that other parts of the world are much different.)

Still, may be a good deal if you have the cash now. I was lusting after an 1198, but after Ducati pulled the factory team from WSBK and their announcement I am waiting their fantastic new model (hoping).

    • SPEKTRE76

They’re gathering dust here too. I saw one on the showroom floor with a ‘SOLD’ tag on it. It was an 1198S for $16,500 USD! That’s a sizeable chunk off the sticker. And there were 3 more just sitting there. I remeber them because they have been there since March, lol.

  • JimSmiffy

Mugget I think you may be on to something in regards to moving models. I suspect however that we aren’t getting any kind of new model. I think Ducati is homologating the next superbike for everyone to carry us through the two years Ducati will have Rossi and won’t have a Factory team. Now the standard bike (raced in AMA and BSB etc) now comes with a bunch of helpful goodies to keep it competitive, I mean they can’t really bore it out any further.

  • mixedup

looks like it’s got the ‘old’ 1098 style exhaust cans as well….so they must have had some of those left over. i don’t think this is the first time they’ve come up with something “special” to shift units…..but this IS a bargain. glad i sold my 1098s a while back (that thing has been devalued way too much now!).
