Honda-New-Mid-Concept

Just when the 2011 Honda CBR600F and 2011 Honda CBR250R had us thinking that Honda was cool again, they go and do this. We don’t even know what the Honda New Mid Concept is, but we can only assume it’s some sort of ridiculous attempt to convince old people to buy a Honda instead of a zimmerframe.

Is this like a scooter or something?

    Hybrid?

  • Penectomy

    Looks like a Ducati cruiser.

      ROTFLOL!!!!

  • Penectomy

I admit I had to look up zimmerframe.
Why don’t those things come with the Tennis balls pre-attached to the legs?

I think you’ve identified a potential growth market.

This might be an answer to the success the Yamaha T-Max have for years in Europe…
    :-o

    • robotribe

Yep. That was my initial thought as well. France and Italy gotta have their maxi-scoots.

But the engine appears to be held within the perimeter frame, not on the swingarm, defying the very definition of a scooter.

  • Patrick from Astoria

I was going to say something flip and dismissive, but the more I look at it the more confused I get. Big-ass scooter with a swingarm? Feet-forward twist-n-go motorcycle? The embryonic underpowered genesis of the Akira bike? Something to trick all the girlfriends into going to a dealership? The spawn of Craig Vetter’s infiltration of Honda’s design bureau?

Not appealing, but oddly intriguing. Will be interesting to see details.

It looks like something Medicaid would help pay for.

    • MikeD

      LMFAO. Priceless.

  • MikeD

Shame on Wes, he should know better by now…bad habits don’t go away, it just changes timing to rear it’s ugly faces(AGAIN).LOL.

  • AGP

I don’t understand what are you all so confused about. It’s a new big-wheel maxi-scooter, like there are plenty of already, and it was announced a while back. You people need to keep up… :)

WHO!? Who at Honda has such a hard on for these ‘all bikes in one’ ideas? Dollars to donuts the people behind the DN-01 (‘Do Not Order One’ in dealership parlance) are behind this contraption too.

    • MikeD

“Do Not Order One”…lmao. I’ll save it.

  • TeeJay

Actually, when the DN01 was first shown years back, there were two additional maxiscooters, one even with V4 engine. As the Silverwing getting old, and the DN01 is less successful, rumors grew strong on new model, possible another one out of the original 3.

Last year before one of the VFR leaks, the big man told something on the IoMTT. Something like the image of the VFR will be found of a new line of products. CBR250R was just the first one. The Honda Faze is still only in Japan, but who knows, maybe the big brother coming.

  • TeeJay

    …found of on…

  • Random

It seems Honda’s designers are adepts of natural selection theories – with random diversification as a basis for the production of new products. :)

If anyone has been to Japan in the past five or so years they will have seen larger scooters with similar styling to this everywhere. They’re much more common than traditional motorcycle offerings. This looks like something along the lines of the Tmax and Burgman, if quite a bit sportier.
I can only imagine that whatever this is, it will be marketed towards the Japanese scooter market first and anything after that will be an afterthought.
