Think of these new Rizoma ProGuards as bash guards for clip-ons. Replacing your existing bar end weights and adjustable metal arm reaches forward to the front of your levers, then around them to protect from impacts while riding. Rizoma also claims the ProGuards prevent clutch slip and brake overheating caused by aerodynamic drag.
While the aerodynamic advantage seems a bit spurious, the benefit of protecting levers in a spill is obvious, as is protecting them from impacts while riding. While most people will never have to worry about shoving their brake lever into an opponents elbow while attempting a close pass, lever impacts can also come from road debris and car wing mirrors while lane splitting. I once pulled an epic stoppie after smacking one of my Fireblades’ brake lever against an unyielding mirror in tight London traffic.
The ProGuards offer lever protection without adding significant weight nor visually detracting from a sportsbike’s svelte design. They’re universal and available in different colors.
