The Repurposed Motorcycle or why Steven Johnson is cooler than Craig Vetter

To some, Steven Johnson is an absurdist whose illustrations, originally published in the 1980s, betray an old-timey Cold War optimism that now comes across as quaint. Unless you consider the new Ducati Multistrada, which pretty much looks just like the Cyclehome and multitasks with more computers than the Motorcycle Office. Or just compare the Boatercycle to Honda’s Goldwing, both of which are land-yachts with stacked captain’s chairs, gigantic windshields and weigh more than a car. While many will dismiss these and other shocking similarities to coincidence, we smell conspiracy.

The Moto-Dinette should really be based on a Moto-Guzzi.

Honda actually produced something like the Cycle Extender, they called it the Pacific Coast.

Bedcycle. Because I’d really like to share a cramped sleeping area with another big sweaty dude while he is riding, seated directly on top of me. (Could have at least shown a woman in the illustration!)

Well at least it’s not gay if balls aren’t touching. Right?

These are def what some of your illustrations remind me of, Whole Earth Catalog utopian goofiness for the motorcycle world. Some sort of pre-photographic mail order catalog, anyway. Great.

And Guzzi did actually produce an enclosed cab 3-wheel truck with a motorcycle front end. Several models, including a dump bed.
