Video: Brammo Empulse RR in action

After a disappointing debut at FIM e-Power Laguna, at which the bike couldn’t race due to a mechanical failure, we’re finally getting a peak at the Brammo Empulse RR in action. In these two videos Brian Wismann, the bike’s designer, puts the race version of the Brammo Empulse through its paces both at Thunderhill and on local roads. Never thought you’d see an electric pass an ICE superbike on a track? You’re about to.

Speaking of the track video, Brian says, “The on-board track video was recorded while we were doing some data logging, so the focus on the track was getting good data, not setting record times.  We were also doing at most 3 laps back to back (out lap, 1 complete lap, in lap) in order to check that we were getting the data we needed.  Therefore, all of the laps were done at a 80-90% pace. The speedo is close, but not really calibrated to the rear wheel/tire/sprocket combo we were experimenting with at the time.  The board at the start says “B” because it was a light trackday and they were running A and B group together.  I don’t apex turn 1 because it’s track etiquette. ”

    I want.

Even with a loud bike animals don’t always hear you coming. I’d be concerned about going so fast in the twisties with a sports bike that makes barely any sound…

That said, the bike looks brilliant!

Awesome! Can’t wait to see one of these on the road.

Of course you were well under the speed limit in the road video ;)

      Of course…

I wish I were in a position to buy an Empulse.

I am pretty sure I could live with the limits of an electric bike. Less sure that I could live without exhaust noises and gear changes…

When watching these videos, I was wondering about engine braking, range, crash damage, and what would happen if it got stolen.

Then I realized, those are the kinds of things I wonder about for any motorcycle, not just electrics.

If the Empulse really is going to be priced competitively to what the Suzuki SV650 and has a 100-mile range, I might be selling off some bikes to free up some cash.

What boggles my mind is that ten years ago there wasn’t even one really viable electric motorcycle. And here were are standing on the verge of getting it on!

I wish Brammo (and all their competitors) the best!

No gear-changes! Wow, 33% improvement in my smoothiness factor.

I never thought you lost much time changing gears on a track until I had the chance to stalk some gassers on the Empulse RR and see where I could make up time on them and where they could pull away from me… pretty wild.
