Here’s high-res images and video recaps from Dakar stages 7 through 11. KTM’s Marc Coma and Cyril Despres continue to contest first and second places despite giving away stage victories both to Aprilia and Jonah Street. At ninth place, Quinn Cody is the highest ranked American thanks to a string of consistent top-12 aboard his Honda CRF450X.

Ignacio Chivite, riding his 1978 Bultaco two-stroke, was forced to abandon the rally after he became exhausted spending two sleepless nights trying to keep the bike running. The Spaniard decided it was wiser to quit before he made a mechanical or riding error that could cost him his life.

    I see these Dakar photo stories aren’t getting a lot of attention, at least not in the comments…but I want to say, I really appreciate them. These photos are fantastic. I don’t ride dirt, but these make me want to.

    Would it be better rather than limit displacement to 450cc, to limit top hp and torque with a few displacement rules instead? To me this would result in a larger field and less maintenance intensive (fragile) 450s out there. Just thinking out loud,
