Icon + Brammo = roller derby

Hot pants, roller girls, electric motorcycles, fishnets and hot pink motorcycle jackets. If this is wrong, we don’t want to be right. We saw some scans of this photoshoot on Brammofan yesterday and had to reach out to Icon for more images. How’d the girls fair riding the Brammo Enertias around a roller rink?

Well, it turns out that while ditching internal combustion eliminates the risk of a pipe burn, it adds the risk of an electric motor burn. Which, when combined with fishnet stockings results in this interesting burn pattern.

The product Icon is allegedly promoting here is their Hooligan Glam jacket which features the following attributes:

- Fame, beauty and money like air, oil and gasoline are fleeting. Eventually the hard living and steady diet of rock & roll will get you. But not yet. You’ve got some more living to do. Clad in a classic houndstooth print and festooned in bold silver applique this world is an oyster you’ve yet to fully shuck.
- $185
- Icon relaxed women’s fit.
- Durable fighter mesh chassis for maximum venting.
- Removable Icon field armor impact protector in elbow and shoulder.
- Removable Icon dual-density foam back pad.
- Heavyweight ballistic impact panels.
- Stretch panels for increased mobility.
- Lined collar for comfort.
- Internal zippered pocket for secure storage.
- Removable insulated wind resistant liner.
- Upgradable to Stryker CE back protector.

Special thanks to the Rose City Rollers.

Is Icon trying to become the American Apparel of motorcycle gear?

No, but would that be a bad thing?

  • Glenngineer

    Icon, always classy.

  • Kevin

Wes, to your point earlier, about your desire to make motorcycling cool to your contemporaries, I don’t this is helping…

Butch chicks and electric motorcycle aren’t cool? I dunno, I’ve seen a LOT of roller derby shoots lately and this one’s by far the most fun.

I don’t know what the prob is? It’s pretty awesome to me

I think everyone should stop taking shit so seriously, looks like a blast to me. Its an ad campaign and its def. targeted to the “younger” gen. that everyone keeps crying about. I say rock on.

    • Devin

Agreed. People realize rollerderby is one of those “new things kids are into” right. Just watched a rollerderby theme CSI: Miami two weeks ago and a league has sprung up around me starting about last year or so. It’s the next big thing.

Plus those girls look like they would take to burning themselves on the bike with a lot less drama than usual.

Picture #2 is… wait, what were we talking about?

  • Chris Davis

    Damn I love Portland.

  • Barry

Hmmm, this could work in Austin on the banked track… one more step towards the dream of Rollerball…

I am hoping you mean original, James Caan rollerball, and not the feeble LL Cool J rollerball.

Austin has a Roller Derby team/league

Will this be featured on Portlandia? I’d shuck that.

The triumph of this shoot is making the rollergirls look hot. Most of them are too butch for my taste. Credit the girls, Icon and the photographers for shooting it sexy and fun.
Edit: The blond in photo number 8 is so hot it kinda makes my eyes hurt.

It wasn’t an electric motor burn. But who’s keeping track of such trivia, anyway?
