New for 2011 on the Suzuki GSV-R is the addition of a spiky black transition between the Rizla blue fairings and black frame. A simple graphic element, but a transformative one. Similar to some of the graphics Grant incorporates into our feature spreads, the spikes add a classic touch to otherwise brutal mechanical function and successfully blend the mechanical elements of the engine and frame into the graphic design. As a result, the same old uncompetitive GSV-R gains a sense of timelessness, dynamic tension and purposefulness lacking from most slapdash sponsor liveries. Nice work Troy Lee Designs.
Rizla Suzuki is only fielding a one-rider team this year — Alvaro Bautista — and judging by these images and specs, there don’t appear to be an significant mechanical upgrades. Suzuki placed 4th and last in the Constructor’s championship last year, scoring fewer Team points than Gresini Honda.
