2011 Rizla Suzuki GSV-R: you may as well look good losing

New for 2011 on the Suzuki GSV-R is the addition of a spiky black transition between the Rizla blue fairings and black frame. A simple graphic element, but a transformative one. Similar to some of the graphics Grant incorporates into our feature spreads, the spikes add a classic touch to otherwise brutal mechanical function and successfully blend the mechanical elements of the engine and frame into the graphic design.  As a result, the same old uncompetitive GSV-R gains a sense of timelessness, dynamic tension and purposefulness lacking from most slapdash sponsor liveries. Nice work Troy Lee Designs.

Rizla Suzuki is only fielding a one-rider team this year — Alvaro Bautista — and judging by these images and specs, there don’t appear to be an significant mechanical upgrades. Suzuki placed 4th and last in the Constructor’s championship last year, scoring fewer Team points than Gresini Honda.

Is it really good PR to continue such a long record of losing?

    • aristurtle

Quitting has its own PR consequences, too. Just ask Kawasaki.

      Ask the Chicago Cubs.

i always felt the suzuki looked better than the ducati in motogp not street bikes.

  • tomwito

I wish ZigZag would sponsor a bike.

Them and Dave’s could go halvsies.

  • Coreyvwc

Now if only they could figure out how to make their street bikes not look like a hideous power ranger cycle.

The newer ones in flat colours aren’t nearly as bad as the ‘heritage’(read: 80s) blue, white and neon orange!

I think Bautista will run top 5 a few races. Anyone want to put a fiver down on it?

  • Isaac

This bike still looks fat and slow. Bautista is a good rider but he needs a good bike too.
