2012 Triumph Street Triple: purple!

Dailies, Galleries -

The big story with the 2012 Triumph Street Triple isn’t the new headlights or the fact that Triumph’s making a big deal about the non-R getting the R’s aluminum handlebars (the only “mechanical” upgrade). No, the big deal is the color purple. Not only will it please Whoopie Goldberg fans, but it marks a return to the bold, brash, fruity Triumph that last tried to convince us Nuclear Red was something other than pink.

Sadly, purple isn’t available on the 2012 Triumph Street Triple R, but both models lose some chrome on the exhaust cans, headers and in other areas. In addition to the headlights, the 675cc Streets also gain the revised clocks from the 1050cc Triumph Speed Triple.

Triumph stinks at communicating itself, especially here in the colonies, but indications are the price will be remaining unchanged along with every other spec — 105bhp and 419lbs (wet). That’s fine, the Street already undercuts most rivals in the midweight naked segment while easily besting them on performance and handling. In keeping with the company’s lackadaisical nature, there’s obviously no word on when we can expect the new bike to reach these shores.

Purple and black frame & engine doesn’t go to well together. Oh well, still want it.

    • tomwito

What color do you suggest for the frame and engine? Yellow?

      • http://theprojectbeta.com/ andehans

Yeah, now that you mention it..

        • Ben

          Agreed that would be awesome.

Article needs a Venn Diagram displaying the intersection of Whoopie Goldberg fans and Triumph owners and/or aspirational owners.
Also, it’s “lose some chrome” not “loose”.

You never know, maybe it fell off. Smartass.

I believe his name is Billy and he lives in Doncaster, South Yorkshire where he runs a failing independent video/DVD rental store.

I blame Grimace for the downfall of purple.

Tinkie Winkie finished the job he started.

I’m proud to not have that reference at the forefront of my mind. Must be an advantage of not having kids.

Barney is number one on my Purple Destroying Hitlist

      • http://www.facebook.com/beastincarnate BeastIncarnate

Good point. I must have blocked Barney out of my brain. Psychological coping mechanism, I’m sure.

I’m done whining about the new headlights–in fact, I like ‘em on the Street. Purple? I think it’s rad.

But that new Triumph logo? Really?

Okayokayokay, I’ll stop finding dumb stuff to complain about. ThenewflyscreenisabitblehbutI’mnotmentioningit.

Many of the clothing manufacturers we deal with are pushing purple as the colour for this season. Don’t really get it myself but perhaps it will sell well on the Continent where men seem to be bolder with the colours they wear.

    • Devin

Agreed. I think the bike looks great in purple, but I wouldn’t buy a purple bike for my own.

  • robotribe

I like it. Hell, it’s rather subdued compared to my “David Lee Roth pants meets Tequila mix” Roulette green ’09 Striple. Love it or hate it, kudos for them not going with another conventional red, black or blue like other brands. Give it another year for Honda to follow up with a purple-colored Hornet for 2014.

The logo change is interesting; it seems as if they’re highlighting the differences between the cruiser/Bonnie range and their “modern” bikes on a more literal level as well.

    Whoopie Goldberg has fans?

Dude, she played Guinan. ‘Nuff said. /NerdAlert

  • Dennis

Alice Walker fans, one would think.

  • Cheese302

hmm, still prefer this years black/gold striple r. will have to start posting up fo rthe new exhaust and lights right when i pick it up. maybe triumph will start selling bar end mirrors for the r handle bar. agreed with R.Sallee, he new logo stinks.

  • Dan

Booo new logo. Old logo looked so cool on the “modern” bikes. I guess that’s why the make stickers…

    • Matt Wisch

I agree, the new logo is lame. Problem is, the logo is probably clear coated over on the tank.

      • F

i don’t think it is if you buy one of the ‘satin’ paint colors

  • http://bloodfalcons.blogspot.com motoguru

This must be the new cosmos black i’ve been hearing about…

  • Spencer

I want one, and I would name her Purple rain!

  • dux

Did anyone notice in the press photos that the rider was wearing Triumph “old logo” on his jacket? How “last season”!

  • Todd

Purple. Bleh. Prince sang Little Red Corvette not purple. Is Triumph going to make their version of the Windjammer windscreen too? Triumph should have done a Limited Edition Striple like they did with the Daytona 675. It had a blue frame. With so little color matched body parts on the Striple, it’s hard to get away visually from the black engine/frame. And the new lights are hideous. Also did the new logo have to be lowercase? The coolness of that will run out about right…now.

    • dux

Yeah, that logo looks 10 years old already
