The TT in 3D

Described as “Days of Thunder meets Postman Pat,” by Empire Magazine, a 3D documentary on the Isle of Man TT is set to debut in the UK next month. Cleverly titled “TT3D: Closer to the Edge” the film follows Guy Martin as he attempts to gain his first victory in the road race. Of course, what this trailer doesn’t touch on is that Guy crashed out of the race in a spectacular fireball. Wonder if they captured that in 3D?

Thanks for the tip, Frank.

Is this coming to the States?

    • Wes Siler

There’s no word on that yet, so signs are not positive.

If you look at the imdb page, it shows the release date as 4/22/11 (USA):

Hope we get it I’m a huge fan.

Narrated by Jared Leto? Guess he is into bikes?

        • Wes Siler

I think that’s incorrect. That’s the UK release date, they’re still “looking into” bringing the film to america, which means they have no distribution lined up.

  • michael.engle

Okay, so it looks like we should have a group trip to the UK! Who’s buying?

    • stempere

For once i’m on the lucky side of the atlantic! Seems like the perfect excuse to go to london for a day or two, the eurostar is pretty cheap…

EDIT damn it, just watched the trailer and had forgotten how i don’t get a WORD Guy Martin says, that’s one hell of an accent… i guess i’ll have to wait for the dvd to see it with subtitles.

The only word I can understand from Guy is “Tea”. Luckily, that’s about 45% of the words he uses.

  • UrbanRider

Can’t find where it will be showing in London.

    • Wes Siler

Yeah, the information around this is a bit weak. I’ll look into it, but I’m really sick today.

OT Question: Does anyone know why the screens on TT race bikes are so steep as seen in the picture of Guy above?

This looks like an amazing movie, I’d love to see it in a theatre like IMAX 3D.

Good question, now that I’ve noticed I can’t figure out that windscreen either.

Holding high speeds for loooooong periods causes neck pain and arm pump due to the pressure pushing against the head, arms, chest and shoulders. And the wind cause helmet shake witch can be a pain in the ass on the eyes while navigating through a tight 2 lane road.
The tall screen helps a lot. It makes things easyer on the body with less fatigue.

      Wind protection rather than styling.

    • Wes Siler

There’s some very long straights and some very high sustained speeds at the TT, the screen helps create better aerodynamics by more fully shielding the riders in a tucked position. TT riders tend to be bigger than GP riders.

        Must be the huge balls.

        • Steve

          Second that.

This flick looks awesome, can only hope it comes stateside. Of course, it will prob need to be re-titled, otherwise most Americans will not have a clue or think it’s about boobs.

I have read interviews with McGuinness where he calls himself fat. Makes sense.

        • Turf

There were a couple years there where Mikey Dunlop Actually had a chin and a half.

  • Turf

Must see this, My Mancrush on Guy compels me.

  • Dean

I love documentaries (Dust to Glory was sweet), but can’t stand 3D. Everything becomes darker and more difficult to focus on. I’ll take plain-jane HD over HD3DTT any day of the week.

    Other than that, I’m psyched.

    • Turf

I’m right there with you, 3D is fucking dumb and we need to stop filming and converting things into 3d as it’s clearly worse.

  • Brammofan

Wait, so is this the next X-Men movie? I see Wolverine, but where is Storm? And what happened to Wolverine’s mouth? Sounds like he’s got a mouthful of haggis or something.

I’m looking forward to seeing this movie, with or without Hugh Jackman.

    • Richard

Ha! I think Guy is way tougher than Wolverine though.

  • Skank NYCF

What I would give for a ride over there.

  • Mike

Was excited to tell my wife about this, as we honeymooned there during the 99th TT, rented a bike & all that. Good times.
Then I remembered she can’t see in 3D.

Well, chances of getting it in the US are slim anyway.

  • muckluck

Is it sad that I’ve watched this trailer at least 5 times now? If it doesn’t come to the US at least we’ll probably be able to get it on DVD right?
