Remember when red, white and black spelled Yamaha?

“Read, Agostini, they all ran similar colour schemes when they won so the opportunity to use it on the YZR-M1 is really nice,” says Jorge Lorenzo. He and Ben Spies will mark Yamaha’s 50th anniversary in GPs by racing in these colors at Assen and Laguna Seca. In addition to the bikes, the entire teams, pits and trucks will also be adorned in the classic red and white speed blocks.

Awesome. Loving this. If they ever run the yellow/black colors my head might explode. Also: I knew the blue M1 was ugly but I didn’t notice how ugly until now.

This video clip needs a NSFW label immediately!

    Reminds me of the first time I saw a FZR-750R – 0w01.

I dig it, but I wish that they would stick to a full livery color for a year instead of just 2 races. I am going to see them blast by on the teevee, and have no idea if that is Lorenzo’s Yamaha or Simoncelli’s Honda.

Why doesn’t the R1 look like this?

    • Coreyvwc

That is the million dollar question right there my friend! For some reason they would rather have the R1 look like a plastic two wheeled canoe (sit on one, you’ll see what I mean).

HFL, you have industry connections. Can you ask this question to the Yamaha design department?

I had the red’n'white RZ-350… sniff! I *miss* that bike.

They do need to pick one and stick with it. Is Yamaha blue? Red/white? Black/yellow? Ugly Dr. Pepper maroon like my FJR?

  • Mr.Paynter

Yamaha Blue puts me off a whoooole bunch! Rerun the Classics!

  • robotribe

Bravo, Yamaha. You’ve revealed your current line-up’s livery to be the mundane crap that it is. Grow a pair and make this scheme a customer option.

What a beauty! Even better than the yellow Rossi one.
