Excursion: Oakland Valley Speedway

HFL, Positions -

May 22 at Oakland Valley Speedway wasn’t scheduled for motorcycle racing. That day was booked for a quad racing event which let whatever bikes that showed up to race between heats. The weather in New York was drizzly, a bit chilly and constantly threatening heavy showers, the kind of stuff that keeps most people indoors or in cars if they have to run Sunday errands. But, for these East Coast Flat Track racers including the crew from 6th Street Specials, there is no such thing as a bad day for dirty racing. Click below for the feature.

    Wicked.

Looks awesome. No pics of of G Mike looping it off the start? Selective journalism for sure.

      See link in comment below.

The first thing I said to Grant when I came off the track was “DID YOU GET THAT?!” I really wish someone caught a photo of the bike mid flight. There’s always next time.

I’ve got a shot of you running behind the bike, but I had the wide angle lens on and you’re tiny.

      • Mike

See the truth is I did that for your benefit. You know…to keep the day interesting and give you material. Fortunately, the HFL stickers you hooked me up with kept the exhaust pipes intact.

Awww. Here’s something special just for you.

          • Mike

            HAHAHAH sweet!

            Here’s a closeup

Hmmm.. that “words on the track” graphic looks familiar to me. Assrubbingly familiar.

damn, nice work. still rocking the leica? (i think i remember reading that’s what you’re using?)

i’m looking at the poor man’s leica, the fuji x100.

    • Thom

Leica ? Yeah thats right Ayu and I had discussed that you and I are Leica M6 addicts !

@ damien – If you’re serious about a poor mans Leica there is a better choice . Damn if I can remember the name but they were made up until a few years ago in one of the Eastern Bloc countries and it was a mighty fine second choice .

Not completely up to Leica M6 standards mind you , but a damn fine camera as well as no where’s near , used or new , the price of any Leica M . I’ll poke around and see if I can dig up the brand name or maybe Grant knows it .

      • http://hellforleathermagazine.com Grant Ray

I shoot with a Ziess Ikon for film, Leica M8 for digital. Both use the same lenses.

        • Thom

Oh well . Right brand . Right configuration . Wrong model . My mistake . I must of misunderstood Ayu .

    • Thom

      @ damien

Its the Voigtlander Bessa . Check it out !

sidescroll features on HFL are what I look forward to the most. Excellent photos!

    • BenP

Agreed… really top notch, I can’t wait to go look at this on a machine other than my crappy work laptop.

  • http://www.brammofan.com Brammofan

Yes… another winner. This should quell the rumors that Grant was hired by Tiger Beat Magazine.

    • http://hellforleathermagazine.com Wes Siler

I heard it was US Weekly.

  • Charles

Did you go a hundred yards south of there to the Main Track at Oakland Valley Race Park? They do supermoto races there, but the big business there is the karting.

    • http://greasermike.blogspot.com/ Mike

Depending on who you talk to, the dirt track IS the main track. (Btw, they run a 4hr 125cc enduro series on that asphalt track as well, which is incredibly fun)

  • HammSammich

    Flat track goodness. Great feature!

  • Gary Inman

Racing for the sake of it. It’ll never catch on.
Number 12 has come serious lean on in an early photo.
Makes me want to go racing. Fortunately I don’t have to wait long because the UK race series has a round at Silverstone this Saturday – the weekend of the British MotoGP round. Graziano Rossi is going to do some laps of the Zaeta DT. We’re hoping his son comes to watch. G

#12 is Scott Rounds. He’s an incredibly fast rider that took the checkered flag in the main.
