Completing the 12.42-mile course in a record 11:11.32, Carlin Dunne has set a new all-time record for the Pikes Peak Hillclimb. The extraordinary thing is that this was Carlin’s first visit to The Race To The Clouds and he won not on a dedicated race bike, but on his dealership’s (Ducati Santa Barbara) demo Ducati Multistrada.

“When the flag dropped I got the holeshot and went for it,” stated Carin. “The whole week’s worth of setup work with my technician Sam Swain came together and the Multistrada 1200 worked flawlessly to give us the win.” Here’s photos of his victory. We’ll update with video when it becomes available.

Wow. I’d heard that SB Ducati was sending a bike and rider out to Pikes Peak. Good for them. This is awesome.

Rad to see Carlin doing good things.

Man, bikes are fast these days. Congrats to Duck, the ‘Ship, and especially the rider. Hell of a run.

Any word on the Pizza delivery man?

Meaning Chip Yates? He ran as part of an exhibition class, did an 11:50 or so, which would have put him toward the front of the 250 and 450 moto classes.

It was incredible to see him go whistling by, with just a bit of tire noise. I was at a section with a knee-down left followed by a long right sweeper. Almost missed seeing him because he was just a flash coming through the trees. Have to say though that I’d really miss internal combustion noise if it ever went away.

BTW, his average of over 60 mph for the 12+ miles is especially impressive after driving the lower half of the course in my WRX. There weren’t many places that I wanted to touch 60, let alone average 60 for the whole damn thing!

The top portion (the last few miles) isn’t even paved yet, is it? So this truly was a “multistrada” course!

Any word on how that electric bike did?

A section near the bottom around 3(?) miles long is not paved, but the after that it is paved to the top. This was the last year with any dirt, next year it will all be asphalt. Very cool watching Dunne do it yesterday, buy Joey Kopp seriously backing in a rad Street Triple into the top corners was by far the coolest show.

Damn my boss wouldn’t even let me take the demos home

Less than $17k on ebay. We live in great days.

So next year when it’s all paved I assume that the Isle of Man TT guys are going to come in and DESTROY the record books? Mcguinness, Martin, and the like.

When its paved next year, Dunne needs to take a Diavel to the top, and set a record. Not wearing gloves, of course.

Can you get a holeshot if you’re the only rider out there? I guess you’re always going to get the holeshot if you are the only one.

It is the great pity of the world that they paved The Pikes Peak road. All of the history of the place is based on the wild lurid slides that the various cars and bikes have displayed over the years in their climb to the clouds. To get a glimpse of the real “climb” u-tube “climb dance” Ari Vatannen’s supreme effort and triumph.
