Wes fall down go boom. Again.
As some of you may have seen of his Facebook page, Wes had himself yet another epic bender sometime Saturday afternoon. I wasn't there and Sean is currently occupied taking Wes to a specialist, but after a good bit of texting and confirmation via IM, I've been able to piece together a story of what went down.
Wes, Sean and Sean's buddy went camping around Big Bear this weekend, above Lake Arrowhead. At the time of the crash Wes was piloting the Ural sidecar, Sean was on the Yamaha WR250R and Sean's buddy was on his personal KTM450. According to Sean, they were roughly 18 miles away from the campsite and approximately 4 miles from the nearest paved road. The corner on which the carnage took place was given a Rally rating by Sean as a 3 out of 6. Sean's buddy was leading, followed by Wes and Sean, respectively. Below are the two versions of the crash provided by Wes and Sean, which I've spliced together from texts and IMs.
Wes:
"EPIC crash."
Sean:
"It was really sad. Like 8 second long. It finally ended with the front end digging in and hitting a post."
Wes:
"Rolled it at 50 ish."
Sean:
"Maybe, 35-40?"
Wes:
"Flew the car, caught it, understeer, flew, understeer, flew."
Sean:
"The sidecar never came up more than about 3 inches."
Wes:
"Big downhill corner. Right hander..."
Sean:
"Maybe a 3 out of 6 if you wanted to use rally labels."
Wes:
"log..."
Sean:
"At that point, the bike was going maybe 8 mph. He held on for dear life as he went over the bars and that's what snapped his wrist. I think that there may have been a large rock or some concrete where the front wheel dug in too because the whole front suspension is pretty mangled."
Wes:
"No vid unfortunately."
Sean:
"It was one of the more painful things I've watched."
