Two-time AMA Grand National Championship winner, 1967 Daytona 200 winner, 1976 Formula 750 World Champion*, teammate to Barry Sheene and Yvonne Duhamel and factory rider for Triumph, Kawasaki, Suzuki and Yamaha, Gary Nixon, died this morning in Baltimore after suffering a heart attack.     This sucks. I had the pleasure of spending a few days hanging out with Gary a few years back. Did a track day with him at Infineon, then he partied with us all night in SF. He was faster than 90% of the guys at the track day, and hung right with all of us young bucks during the evening’s festivities. Super nice guy and fast as hell on anything with two wheels. Truly a legend of the sport. R.I.P Gary…

    I watched him on the San Jose Mile as a thrilled 15 year old. He could really ride those Triumphs. Flattracking today will never measure up to the Gary Nixon and Bart Markel days. Legends gone by…
