Julien Dupont rides Gateshead Millenium Bridge

Spanning 413 feet of the River Tyne in Newcastle, the Gateshead Millenium Bridge rotates up to 40 degrees to allow ships of up to 82 feet tall to pass underneath. With only a 4.5 minute window in which to cross the bridge while raised, it sounds like the perfect obstacle for a freestyle trials rider like Julien Dupont, right? It ended up being one of his hairier stunts though; he lost traction while near the peak, nearly plummeting into the river below.

“I am constantly looking for interesting and unique structures to conquer as this is the challenge for all freestyle motorbike trials riders,” stated Julien. “I want to keep pushing the boundaries of this sport and this project showed that.”

*hairier – causing nervous tension by doing something scary

harrier – British-designed jet capable of taking off and landing vertically.

    • Barry

Perhaps he plans to ride across a Harrier while it does a VTOL?

  • protomech

Harrier stunts? I guess he nearly had a vertical landing.

Why didn’t I know about this? It’s only 10 minutes down the road and looks like they could have done with a few to make up the numbers in the crowd!

Balls ha ha Yan I just came on here to say the same!!!!

Greg’s Mrs saw it but said “it wasn’t very impressive he went too slow” apparently!

  • Chuck

Not to be an ass, because I certainly don’t have the balls to even try that, but he goes up, lays his bike over then gets back on and doesn’t try for a second run?

Seems to me that he could have made it on a second shot if he got up to that nook sooner.

I agree, I expected it to be more exciting. I’m not one with cajones large enough to attempt it, but if you are attempting it at least make it a show. Big disappointment with this.

I’m more excited about the bridge than the stunt attempt…Guess I’m just easily amused.

    • Elvis

I know right? That bridge is nuts.

  • John

“nearly plummeting into the river below.” Yes, losing traction is def gonna send the bike over the at least 3 foot tall hand rail… Makes about as much sense as saying he almost shot into the sky with that trajectory… haha

That guy looks like a French Wes Siler.

    • Brad

…minus the ubiquitous cast, and middle finger salute, of course.

  • John

Julien is amazing!..I wonder what type of tyres he used on this, can’t really make it out from the video.

Fuggedaboutit…Mr. Dupont has bike control dripping out his pours daily, but maybe he’ll take his helmet off next for more thrill factor.
