Cycle World sold to Bonnier

Cycle World has been sold to Bonnier Corp — the publisher of titles like PopSci and Field & Stream — it was announced earlier today. The sale should mean stability for the brand, which bounced from Lagardère SCA to Hearst earlier this year, and hopefully a fresh infusion of capital. Bonnier plans to retain CW staff, including editor Mark Hoyer and vp Andy Leisner while rolling the brand into their men’s lifestyle ad sales program.

Thanks for the tip, Peter.

Good news – they have far and away the best collection of writers out there (Peter Egan, Kevin Cameron, Allen Girdler, Steve Anderson, etc…).

Now if they would only do something with that cesspool of a forum…

Nuke it from orbit. It is the only way to be sure.

I can’t believe how much this book has been bounced around recently. There must be a new logo on staff paychecks every 6 months!

    Good luck Cycle World!

Not being mean, but I honestly didn’t even know they were still in business.

Compared to most it is a terrible publication – basic regurgitation of press release after press release where every shoot out is a 2011 t-ball game – everybody gets a trophy because we don’t want the other team to feel bad.

In the US, the direct competitor is Motorcyclist and, in that comparison, Cycle World is the holy grail of magazines.

Which is pretty much damning with faint praise.

Oh no, that magazine i’ve never read has fallen on tough times.

Hahaha! My sentiments exactly. Let dinosaurs die – I need their blood to fuel my Honda.

I’ll keep a subscription for as long as Peter Egan keeps getting a paycheck.

  • Will

Hopefully they’ll keep that slogan, “Livin’ in the Cycle World!”

Yes, their news and info sucks. But, I have been a subscriber for a while, and I will continue to be. Why?
-Pictures. I like photos. Same reason I buy Sideburn mag.
-I have to admit, I like Egan.. and Cameron. they make me think and learn.
-Sometimes computers suck, like on airplanes.
    -It’s cheap.

You got to take it with a grain of salt, people. When you have constant deadlines, some of the content is not great. Read the paper, you’ll see what I mean.

Newspaper? You mean the stuff I use to keep my worms fit and healthy?

Cycle World without David Edwards is kinda like Iron Horse without David Snow. — JT

I really dislike this magazine. Motorcyclist is way better. And Sport Rider is even better than Motorcyclist. Even Roadracing World has come a long way. Every time I buy a Cycle World I feel ripped off. It doesn’t know what kind of motorcycle magazine it wants to be. We are better off without it.
