2012 BMW F800R: now less ugly

The BMW F800R’s never been a terribly good motorcycle, but it has been in ugly one. Now, it can’t even claim that distinction. For 2012, the parallel-twin commuter is going all not-so-bad with body-colored radiator cowls and mudguards. Plus a red shock spring to highlight its “sporty character.”

Mechanically the biker remains unaltered. Boring 87bhp parallel twin. Aluminum beam frame. Too-upright riding position. Thousands more than a Triumph Street Triple.

I dunno. Less ugly? The lights still make it look like Bill the Cat.

I love those asymmetrical headlights. Then again, I own a Vstrom and dig the surprised insect look of it.

      ACK.

    No thanks.

I know this bike isn’t pretty or powerful but it makes me want to tuck one into my garage and say supportive nurturing things to it while all the meanies go about their business.

I own a ’99 R1100s and do the same thing to it “Shhhh don’t listen to what those nasty Japanese sports bike riding bullies are saying, you’re unique”

That thing is a mess and the red colorway is not doing it any favors. Looks like it was pieced together from at least five different bikes.

I know Wes is on record as strongly disliking the bike, but I still enjoy mine greatly. It’s comfortable, reliable, cool looking (in my opinion) has great handling and is easy to live with. The available hard cases, heated grips and ABS (I know the new ST3 has optional ABS) make it a ton more versatile than most of the competition. I commute on it, I tour on it and I have a blast with it. I do grant that the engine lacks some character.

Seconded. My S is fantastic… except for that lame engine.

What is the demographic for this bike?

I honestly can’t believe this costs a penny more than a street triple. This looks SV650 caliber, and at least that thing was fun-ish.

i have to say the white one does look somewhat ok – and i have to confess it always catches my eye when I see one on the street – but then i remind myself that the bike is a mess and i go on with my day riding my cheaper better faster more awesome speed triple.

i dont get it bmw… mv agusta positioned themselves so well to take the fight to triumph in this segment and yet they just keep plodding along putting out a slightly revamped naked that nobody wants.

Does anyone know how many of these they sell a year?

I love pipe-dreaming about bikes like this. A monthly payment isn’t too scary but lets just mosey over to the Progressive quote calculator…

    “$2,313.00 increase from 11/08/2011 to 07/13/2012″

Guess I’ll put some hard cases on the Buell.

It may be ugly, but I for one love and support ugly. Ugly means that they were trying, and simply failed. Endorse the nine out of ten ugly bikes, ladies and gentlemen, because that tenth design may be the next groundbreaking masterpiece.

this compared to the tiger is a sad, sad looking bike.

I’ve seen them in the flesh, and the are not appealing at all. Not enough power, not enough character, and the reason why BMW sold Husqvarna. No way any company can survive selling something stuff derived from such an uninspiring, boring motorcycle…

The loser patrol is on this board …

    No power

Try losing some fat , and the f800r goes plenty fast
