Jamie Robinson’s European Vacation – Part 2

Week one had been riding south from London to La Bañeza in northern Spain for the MXGP, week two was then a ride East and across to a small town called Eisenerz in the center of Austria for the Erzberg Rodeo. To get to Austria I chose to go back the way I came and ride the magnificent Picos de Europa National Park as it had been such an incredible ride, then chose loads of squiggly countryside roads through the South of France before calling in to see my old GP 250cc buddy Max Biaggi in Monaco.

After spending over three weeks in my tent after a fortnight in the Isle of Man at the TT and now a week and a bit into my European Adventure ride, I was in need of a good shower and maybe a bed for the night, but Max had other ideas and would only let me sleep on his balcony due to my well-traveled odor.

There were plenty more twisty hills to enjoy as I rode into Italy and stopped off at Alpinestars HQ in Asolo on my way through and as I pulled up it was a surprise to see my buddy Seth from England waiting for me and grinning like a Cheshire cat, he’d expressed interest at joining my trip only a few days before after growing tired of seeing my blog, so I said be at Alpinestars on Wednesday and never thought to much about it but here he was, he’d made it, for my onward trip would have a riding buddy and have someone to talk bikes with over a beverage at the end of the day, just perfect!

As we rode away from Alpinestars we unfortunately also rode away from bright skies and dry roads, from here on in it was only going to get colder and wetter as the weather turned more and more miserable and after riding a full day and night in wet and some very sketchy weather, we got a cheap B&B for the night.

The next day we would finally reach Eisenerz and instantly see the Iron Mountain, it was clearly visible when looking at this vast hillside why out of the 1200 participants only a handful finish and why they call this the toughest one-day motorcycle event in the world.

This rider has the excitement of a kid. Nice.

Was that a drone at the end? flying around getting motorcycle footage? Pretty damn cool.

  • Justin

    Very cool video.

  • Kevin

Holy crap, was the pic of the guy in the diapers really necessary? Some stuff you just can’t unsee. LOL

And where, by the way, is that amazing tunnel road in France! I tried googling it to no avail. I have to add that to my list of places I must ride.

Jamie, you are an awesome human being, thanks for sharing!

Diapers, Crocs, trash-bag girdle, and leaning on a hoe. Classic.

The tunnel — or more like a cave with a road through it — looks awesome.

I spent a half an hour browsing stuff on the Alpinestars website, so mission accomplished… thanks A-Stars for helping to underwrite the journey.

Envy is a sin right? Can I just be jealous then?

With a name like Noah, I’m guessing you already know that jealousy is a physical expression of envy.

      • Noah

Ha! Yeah OK we both know it. And luckily we both know that motorcycles are joy machines.

  • Adrian_B

    Lucky, lucky bastard.

I thought only the Scots were nutty enough to like bagpipes? Sounds like a bag full of cats being squeezed.

Max made Jamie sleep on the balcony?!?!?
Maybe Biaggi was trying to keep Robinson’s mitts off his more prized household “possessions’!
