Motocross at 1,000fps

You’ve seen slick, Red Bull-produced, slow-mo films of MotoGP racing, but did you know that the average rider could do the same with the latest generation of wearable HD cameras? This is an unusually involving, edge-of-the-seat ride through an amateur motocross race, created to demonstrate just how close and competitive that form of competition is.

While wearable cams like the GoPro Hero2 are amazeballs, you can’t do built in extreme slow mo like you see here without post processing with a plugin like Twixtor. Notice the weird artifacting in the background as the software tries to interpolate screens.

The last GOPro does shoot in 120fps though in WVGA (not HD) so you can slow it down by 75% without needing to add or drop frames. It certainly helps but yeah Twixtor is really required to slow down more properly, and depending on background even with that pluggin it doesnt always work well…With a real 1000fps camera motion blur wouldnt be visible.

That is a cool video. Now I need a 250 2 stroke. Need as in, I may die if I don’t get one.

Where in the hell are they still racing 2 strokes? Or is this video like 10 years old?

It looks like the UK at the Red Bull Pro Nationals. They have a class called the Fuchs Silkolene 2 Stroke British Championship. He is riding a new TM with Fox gear and the person lined up on the right also on a new TM with Wulf gear. I also noticed new Husqvarnas with Pro Grip and Acerbis apparel.
It appears Europe is still doing things right and still having fun with 2 strokes!

By AMA rules, except at the pro level, there is no distinction between two and four strokes. That’s right, you can take your YZ250 two stroke and line up next to the CRF250s at your local AMATEUR race.

      Most choose not to, though.

You know, I always thought Motocross racing looked nuts from the spectator’s point of view, but it’s even more so from the rider’s point of view.

P.S. Your stupid periodic log-out logged me out while I was trying to post this comment. It showed me logged in while I was viewing the video and the page, and then when I hit “Post Comment”, told me I had to be logged in to post a comment.

I love HFL, but the need to keep logging in again, even though I check the “remember me” box, drives me nuts.

I feel like I need to check my beer for dirt. Awesome.

    Outstanding.

Nothing can ever replace the mad, hornet’s nest soundtrack of the stinkies going at it. Great video, great sound.

    Can almost smell the premix….

EASY… no sweat! All I gotta do is adjust my speaker volume now and then.
